Substance
Use Disorder
This course is designed
to increase the knowledge of healthcare providers who care for and work with
people who have substance use disorder through a general overview of risk
factors and diversion signs and symptoms. Nurses are also presented with information
on the ethical, legal, and regulatory aspects of substance use disorder and/ or
drug diversion. Treatment options are discussed and include return to work,
education, and support necessary for the affected healthcare provider.

Identify symptoms of substance use disorder.

Discuss the importance of the ANA Code of Ethics related to substance use
disorder.

Describe signs of diversion.

Recognize the regulatory responsibility of reporting.

strategies to create and promote an inclusive healthcare environment
accommodating diverse cultural backgrounds, fostering trust, and effective
communication between healthcare providers and patients.

State 3 risk factors for substance use disorder.
Course Outcome
Participants
will walk away with understand the background and identify risk factors of
substance use disorder (SUD).
